community foundation for the national capital region

A community foundation is a permanent philanthropic instrument of, by, and for, its community. Its essential task is to maintain a pool of endowment funds, donated by many people and institutions, and invest it to produce income for charitable grants to benefit the entire community. You can donate to CF funds and projects, or create your own fund. Established in 1973 to serve Metropolitan Washington, CFNCR is also affiliated with two other CF’s – the Montgomery County Community Foundation and the Prince George’s Community Foundation. The local CF is a great first stop on any philanthropic journey.

washington area women’s foundation

In 1997 a diverse group of women created this public foundation to improve the lives of women and girls in the Metropolitan Washington area. Founded on the belief that the well-being of our country is directly related to the economic status of all women, WAWF supports local organizations that help women and girls achieve economic independence and full lives. The first foundation of its kind in the region, WAWF builds upon the success of more than 100 women’s funds around the world. You can contribute to WAWF, learn about women in philanthropy at their annual spring conference, or seek advice about excellent charities in the field.
